Search and answer engine optimisation isn’t something you “do once.” It’s a habit. A lifestyle. A religion, almost. And AI search engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity aren’t just changing the game — they’re rewriting the rulebook.
So here’s what I do every single week to make sure my websites (and my clients’) continue to actually get found, by Google, by AI, and by humans.
Whether you're a wedding vendor, a creative business owner, or a local service provider — steal these habits. They work.
✅ 1. Upload New Photos to Google Business Profile
Google treats your photos like a heartbeat. Fresh images = active business.
- Upload new, relevant, good photos.
- Delete old, low-quality or irrelevant ones.
- Tip: Your business is only as attractive as your worst photo. GMB is like a dating profile — act accordingly.
✅ 2. Post an "Update" on Google Business
Think of it like your business's own little social media feed. I post weekly updates with:
- A new blog
- A seasonal special
- A behind-the-scenes photo
- Something useful or quirky that keeps my listing active
✅ 3. Add a Helpful New Blog Post
I write at least one post a week that's:
- Useful
- Shareable
- Solves a problem
Google sees it. Clients love it. AI indexes it. Everyone wins.
✅ 4. Post to Every Social Media Channel
I repurpose content to hit:
- Threads
- Pinterest (if it makes sense)
It doesn’t have to be revolutionary. Just consistent.
✅ 5. Send a Weekly Email to My List
Even if it’s short, even if only 30% open it — it’s still:
- Brand reinforcement
- A nudge toward my latest offer or article
- A chance to stay top of mind
✅ 6. Check My Site Health (via a Site Audit Tool)
I use Ahrefs, but you could use Moz, Screaming Frog, or anything that checks for:
- Broken links
- Missing meta descriptions
- Redirect issues
- Crawl errors
If your site isn’t healthy, rankings suffer.
✅ 7. Run a Pagespeed Insights Test
Each week I test a few key URLs at PageSpeed Insights:
- Homepage
- Top blog
- Key landing page
Speed affects rankings and user experience — don’t ignore it.
✅ 8. Ask a Client for a Google Review
Every. Single. Week.
The best time to ask for a review? Right after something great happens.
Pro tip: ask nicely, and include the direct link.
✅ 9. Add a New Piece of Content
I keep building:
- My wedding song collection
- My venue directory
- Blog articles, FAQs, testimonials, etc.
More content = more keywords = more traffic. But don’t just write junk. Make it useful.
✅ 10. Check Google Search Console & Analytics
Each week, I look for:
- Declining impressions or clicks
- New queries I’m showing up for
- Bounce rates or low time-on-page
- Crawl errors or indexing issues
This tells me where to double down or fix issues.
✅ 11. See What AI Says About Me
I literally ask ChatGPT and Perplexity:
“Who is the best [insert your niche here] in [your location]?”
If it doesn’t mention me — I work towards fixing that.
That means better structured data, clearer brand signals, and smarter content. AI is the new search. Start treating it that way.
✅ 12. Validate My Schema Markup
I double-check my structured data using:
Bad schema = no rich results = less visibility in search and AI.
✅ 13. Check What My Competitors Did This Week
I don’t obsess, but I do monitor:
- Their new blog posts
- Social content
- Website changes
If they’ve launched something great — I take note. If they’re slipping — I take advantage.
✅ 14. Fix One Old Page
Each week, I update an older page or blog post:
- Rewrite the intro
- Add fresh stats or visuals
- Link to newer content
- Improve headlines or subheadings
This keeps my content fresh, which Google loves.
✅ 15. Check Internal Linking
Internal links help with:
- SEO
- Crawlability
- Keeping visitors around
I make sure key pages have links to them, not just from them.
👊 TL;DR — Want to Win at Search? Build Better Habits
Search and AI discovery isn’t about hacks. It’s about momentum. A rhythm. A weekly groove.
If you do even half of these things consistently, you’ll outrank most of your industry.
And if you want help — well, that’s what I do.
