I often find myself by the concept of award ceremonies for creatives - especially for wedding celebrants - because I simply don't think we're in a race and I could better you, or vice versa.
Instead, we're each running our own race, against ourselves, trying to make the greatest work ever, one that only we could make: the greatest ceremony ever.
I think of it in light of this classic Steve Jobs line,
The goal was never to beat the competition, or to make a lot of money. It was to do the greatest thing possible, or even a little greater.
As you pick up the microphone, or sit down for the meeting, with your next couple, try and create the greatest wedding ceremony for them, that could only be for them, and could only be created by you.
That is the greatest ceremony ever.
