Deadset forgot this was even on the cards, but I’m absolutely chuffed now because Warner Brothers has finally found a buyer to distribute the legal comedy, Coyote v ACME.
The long and winding road for Coyote v ACME, through tax-obsessive bullshit, is finally over. There are no more fake painted tunnels in our guy’s way.
After a bloody rollercoaster of a journey, this live-action/animated hybrid film has been snagged by Ketchup Entertainment and is heading to the big screen! Next year, mind you.
Coyote v ACME is based on the Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote and the 1990 New Yorker article of the same name (signup required) by Ian Frazier, following Coyote as he takes the Acme Corporation to court for their dodgy products that never bloody work.
The film, starring Will Forte as Wile E’s lawyer and John Cena as the head of ACME, was initially chucked in the bin by Warner Bros Discovery, causing fans to crack the shits.
Thankfully, the studio later decided to let the filmmakers shop it around. Presumably the production team had some ripper blackmail material on the WB execs… though it probably doesn’t hurt that one of the film’s producers, James Gunn, is now running the show at DC Studios for WB.
Now when the bloody hell do we get a trailer?!
Will Forte on Youtube:
“My thoughts were that it [the decision] is… fucking bullshit. I couldn’t tell you why it wasn’t released, but it makes my blood boil. … I would understand if the thing sucked, but it’s really good!”
Why did Warner Brothers shelve the film?
Apparently, the studio’s decision was driven by their preference to claim a tax loss of around $30 million.
By writing off the film, they could offset their taxable income, potentially leading to a reduced tax burden. This is a common accounting practice among absolute wankers, although it’s especially controversial when applied to completed films that have artistic merit and public interest. Other films that have been shelved for similar reasons include Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt.
Anyway, now, Ketchup Entertainment has acquired the rights, and the film is expected to hit cinemas in 2026.
This Family Guy clip is unrelated, but brilliant. 😁
